UIN Jakarta Constitutional Law (Siyasah) Activist Launches Book on Elections, Highlights Democracy and Reform Practices
FSH News, 4th Floor Theater – The student activists of Constitutional Law (HTN) at UIN Jakarta, organized under the HTN District, launched the book "Pemilu 2024: Reinventing Demokrasi dan Reformasi" (Friday, 28/06/2024). This book highlights the practice of democracy and reform in Indonesia.
The book launch, authored by 20 HTN activists from UIN Jakarta, was attended by notable figures including Dr. Wahidudin Adams, a Constitutional Court judge for the 2014-2024 period, Professor Kamarusdiana, a Professor at the Faculty of Sharia and Law UIN Jakarta, as well as HTN lecturers and students from UIN Jakarta.
"This book successfully captures what is happening in the practice of democracy and reform in Indonesia," said Wahidudin Adams as he gave a review of the book at the UIN Jakarta campus on Friday (28/06/2024).
Wahidudin mentioned that this work by the Gen Z students was a positive step in engaging with issues of constitutional law. "This is a hallmark and contribution from Gen Z to the future of democracy and reform," added Dr. Wahidudin.
On the same occasion, the Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR RI), Bambang Soesatyo, virtually expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by HTN UIN Jakarta students to discuss democracy and reform issues. "This book is a comprehensive reference on democracy and reform. Interestingly, it was written by Gen Z," said Bamsoet.
Senior musician and politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan), Anang Hermansyah, also expressed his joy over the book's release. He mentioned that if Gen Z is politically aware, it would make Indonesia more advanced. "If the citizens are politically aware, Indonesia will continue to progress," Anang remarked.
Meanwhile, on the same occasion, the Chairperson of HTN District 2023-2024, Lintang Ayu Taufiqoh, explained that the idea for the book originated from the HTN activists' concern over the practice of democracy and reform in Indonesia. According to her, the book not only discusses the 2024 elections but also addresses ongoing political issues that have not been resolved even after 25 years of reform. "This book also discusses the unresolved national political issues of the past 25 years of reform," said Lintang.
The book, consisting of 219 pages, is divided into six chapters, each covering diverse topics in sequence from the first to the last chapter: Maintaining the Quality of Democracy, Forming a Democratic Government Against Corruption, Designing a Participatory Parliament, The Role of Civil Society and Strengthening Democracy, Confusion over Human Rights, and Legal Developments Post-Reform. The book can be obtained through online bookstores.[LFM]
