The Dean Attends the Cooperation Board Meeting of the Faculty of Law of Western Region Universities

FSH News, Palembang - The Cooperation Board of the Faculty of Law (BKS FH) for the Western Region held a Deans' Forum Meeting in Palembang on November 4–5, 2024. The Faculty of Law at Sriwijaya University served as the host for this event. The meeting was attended by 18 deans from law faculties across the Western Region. In addition to the deans, several vice deans and heads of study programs were also present. The Dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law (FSH) at UIN Jakarta was among the participants.

The agenda of the meeting included discussions on the Legal Studies Self-Accreditation Agency (LAM Hukum), the election of new board members, and activity plans for 2025. Prof. Dr. Khairul Munadi, Director of Higher Education Institutions, and Prof. Joni Emerson were keynote speakers who addressed the positioning and challenges of LAM Hukum.

LAM Hukum remains a topic of debate for several reasons, including the uneven quality of law programs across universities, concerns about the high costs associated with its accreditation process, and the structure of the LAM Hukum institution itself. Additionally, the establishment of LAM Hukum requires recommendations from professional legal associations.

FSH UIN Jakarta, as a member of the BKS FH Western Region, has a vested interest in the establishment of LAM Hukum. The Law Study Program at FSH will adhere to the provisions of LAM Hukum if the institution is officially established. Prof. Muhammad Maksum, Dean of FSH, stated that the faculty is continuously preparing to adapt to the new accreditation framework for law faculties. Currently, the Law Study Program is not only applying for reaccreditation with BAN-PT but is also preparing for an accreditation assessment by ACQUIN, an agency based in Germany. This demonstrates FSH’s strong commitment to enhancing the quality and standards of its Law Study Program implementation.[LFM]
