Prof. Dr. Alfitra Inaugurated as Professor of Criminal Law, Advocating the Strengthening of Restorative Justice

FSH NEWS, Jakarta — Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta officially inaugurated Prof. Dr. Alfitra, S.H., M.Hum. as Professor of Criminal Law. In his inaugural scientific oration, Prof. Alfitra presented the theme “The Implementation of Restorative Justice (RJ) for Child Offenders and Victims of Narcotics Crimes.”

In his oration, Prof. Alfitra emphasized that restorative justice should place human interests at the center of criminal law enforcement. According to his discussion, criminal law should not merely focus on identifying offenders, proving guilt, and imposing punishment, but should also consider the recovery of victims, the restoration of damaged social relationships, and the creation of a sense of security within society.

Prof. Alfitra further highlighted the importance of protecting children involved in narcotics-related crimes. Children who become victims of narcotics abuse should receive protection and rehabilitation rather than being subjected solely to punitive measures. He emphasized that restorative justice requires the involvement of victims, offenders, families, communities, and the state in pursuing a fair and dignified resolution.

Through his academic perspective, Prof. Alfitra underscored that restorative justice is not simply a mechanism for reconciliation, but an approach aimed at restoring victims, encouraging offender accountability, and rebuilding social harmony. The approach, he argued, forms part of efforts to develop a criminal justice system that is more responsive to human needs and the pursuit of justice.
