Global Seminar and Campaign: Prevention of Sexual Harassment Among Students
FSH News, 2nd Floor Theater Room – The Family Law Study Program, in collaboration with the UIN Jakarta Center for Gender and Child Studies (PSGA) and the Pulih Foundation, held a seminar and global campaign with the theme "Prevention of Sexual Harassment Among Students" Thursday, 10/10/2024.
This activity is part of a collective effort to prevent violence and sexual harassment in the campus environment. "This is a serious issue that requires special attention, namely collaboration between students, lecturers, education staff, and the entire UIN Jakarta community to protect victims and prevent sexual violence," said Hotnidah Nasution, M.A., the administrator of the task force for sexual violence at the Faculty of Sharia and Law.
This issue is also a concern for the Dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Maksum, S.H., M.A., MDC. He emphasized that the teachings of Islam promote equality between men and women, though in practice, many forms of subordination of women still exist in society. "This is often due to a cultural tradition that remains very patriarchal. However, by studying the teachings of Islam, people will understand that we are all equal before Allah, and what distinguishes us is our faith in Him," said Prof. Maksum in his speech.
This activity is essential to raise awareness about the importance of addressing sexual violence and harassment. It emphasizes that we all need to take responsibility in strengthening awareness and preventing such issues.
The seminar and global campaign focused on recognizing sexual violence in our environment, ways to prevent it before it occurs, and how to handle such situations. The event featured speakers Dr. Wiwi Siti Sajarah, M.Ag. (Head of PSGA UIN Jakarta), Siti Mazumah (National Secretary), and Dr. Livia Istania DF Iskandar, M.Sc., Psychologist (Co-Founder of Pulih Foundation).[LFM]
