FSH Welcomes New Masters and Doctoral Students, Solidifying Steps Towards Campus Internationalisation

FSH NEWS, Theatre lt 2 - The Faculty of Sharia and Law held an orientation activity for new Postgraduate Program students (S2 and S3) as part of a commitment to building a superior, inclusive and globally competitive academic culture on Monday, 8 September 2025. This activity is the first step in welcoming and strengthening academic insights for new students this academic year. The orientation was attended by leaders and heads of study programmes as well as study programme secretaries from masters and doctoral programmes.

The orientation event was opened with a warm welcome from the Chief Executive, Prof. Dr. Afidah Wahyuni, M.A. who expressed her hope that the number of students would continue to increase along with the improvement of the quality of academic services. "FSH is the right choice for studying sharia and law. Let's continue to work, innovate, and maximise potential," she said. He also thanked the faculty leaders and the committee for supporting the smooth implementation of the event.

The Dean of FSH, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Maksum, S.H., M.A., M.C., in his speech emphasised the importance of orientation as an initial foundation for building scientific synergy, as well as introducing the strategic direction of the faculty in academic development and internationalisation. One of the major initiatives being carried out is cooperation in writing books on sharia studies at the ASEAN level, increasing the dissemination of research results, and strengthening comparative studies between countries such as Brunei, Thailand and Singapore.

For the Doctoral programme, FSH has invited external examiners from the University of Malaya (UM) as part of the real steps towards international recognition. "Our orientation this time has led to the formation of an ASEAN-level academic ecosystem. We are not only learning locally, but regionally and globally," said the Dean. He also emphasised the importance of improving study programme accreditation, internalising academic values, and strengthening public recognition of strategic thoughts from the faculty.

The Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Mesraini, M.A., also provided administrative briefings to students, especially related to academic systems such as KRS validation, re-registration every semester, and provisions for applying for academic leave. She also emphasised that as part of a research university, doctoral students are expected to actively publish scientific papers.

In closing, the orientation activity ended with a "Keprodian Insight" session which was held separately according to each study programme, namely:

  • Master of Family Law (MHK),
  • Master of Sharia Economic Law (MHES), and Doctor of Sharia Science.
  • Doctor of Sharia Science.

In this session, new students get an in-depth understanding of the vision, curriculum, lecturers, research focus, and academic development opportunities in their respective study programmes. This session aims to enable students to plan their studies in a directed and productive manner from the start.

With the spirit of togetherness and academic integrity, all FSH academicians say, "Welcome and welcome to the big family of FSH. Let's step together towards academic achievement and global contribution!" [NA]
