FSH Master's New Student Orientation
FSH News, Madya Meeting Room – The Faculty of Sharia and Law held the orientation for new Master's degree students on Friday, August 30, 2024, with the theme “Shaping Intelligent, Excellent, and Moderate Individuals in the Era of Disruption.” The event welcomed 23 students from the Master of Sharia Economic Law (MHES) program and 21 students from the Master of Family Law program.
The Dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Maksum, S.H., M.A., MDC., explained that the Master's degree phase is distinctly different from undergraduate studies. “At the graduate level, students already possess interdisciplinary knowledge, their thinking has broadened from various aspects, and their critical reasoning has deepened,” he said in his opening speech at the S2 orientation.
Additionally, it is a point of pride that the MHES program has received an "Excellent" accreditation, while the Family Law program (MHK) is in the process of attaining the same status by the end of this year. Referring to one of the faculty's key priorities—internationalization—Prof. Maksum encouraged the Master's students to begin writing articles for international journals indexed in Scopus.
"Master’s students are required to write journal articles as part of their graduation requirements. Given that the study period is only three semesters, I hope students can manage their time effectively, especially if they have other commitments outside of class," advised Prof. Dr. Mesraini, M.Ag., Vice Dean for Academic Affairs.
It was also noted that the thesis proposals, which were submitted during the interview process, could serve as drafts for the final thesis, to be developed further in consultation with Academic Advisors and Legal Research Methodology instructors in the early semesters.[LFM]
