FSH Library Holds Information Literacy Event: "Academic Writing: Access to Online Library Databases, Mendeley Reference Manager, and Grammarly Tools"

FSH News, 4th Floor Theater Room – The Faculty of Sharia and Law Library organized an Information Literacy Seminar at the 4th-floor theater room of the Faculty of Sharia and Law. The event was opened with a speech by the Dean of FSH UIN Jakarta, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Maksum, M.A., M.D.C. "This event is targeted at sixth-semester students who will be facing their thesis exams. It is hoped that this seminar can assist students in their writing process," he said on Tuesday, June 11, 2024.

The first session, on Digital Library and Access to Online Library Databases, was presented by Mudianah Mahmud, S.Ip., the Head of the Faculty of Sharia and Law Library. She explained that FSH now offers a service called FSH UIN Jakarta Digital Library, a social media-based digital library application for storing, managing, and distributing e-books through smartphones. In addition, the UIN Jakarta Library also provides Remotlog UIN Jakarta, which offers UIN Jakarta Search, Institutional Repository, and Center Library Catalogue. These services include numerous Subscribed International Journal Resources accessible to UIN Jakarta students.

The second session, on using Mendeley for academic writing, was delivered by Dr. Lolytasari, S.Ag., M.Si. In her presentation, she highlighted three key areas to consider when writing academic papers: writing guidelines, templates, and citation, references, and styles. She also explained how to use the Mendeley application for academic writing.

The final session was presented by Ulpah Handayani, S.Ag., S.S., M.Hum., Senior Librarian at UIN Jakarta, who introduced the use of Grammarly Tools. This application helps ensure that academic writing is free from English language errors. “One of the main reasons for journal publication failures is not due to a lack of research ability, but rather the delivery or execution of writing,” explained Ulpah. Grammarly also provides a plagiarism-checking feature.[LFM]
