Falak Science Public Lecture with FSH UIN Jakarta and Universiti Malaya Malaysia
FSH News, Second Floor Theater Room – The Faculty of Sharia and Law welcomed a visit from Universiti Malaya with the theme "Short-Term Mobility Program" on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, held in the Second Floor Theater Room. The event was attended by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Maksum, S.H., M.A., M.D.C., Dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law, Prof. Dr. Kamarusdiana, M.H., Vice Dean for Student Affairs, and Dr. Raihana binti Abdul Wahab, Faculty Advisor from Universiti Malaya.
The event began with an opening at 08:30, attended by 38 students from Universiti Malaya. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Maksum, S.H., M.A., M.D.C. delivered a welcome speech, emphasizing that this visit represents a partnership between Universiti Malaya and UIN Jakarta, and expressing hope for continued strong ties between the two universities. Dr. Raihana also expressed gratitude to UIN Jakarta for the warm reception.
At 09:30 WIB, the event continued with a public lecture on Astronomy by Dr. Maskufa, M.A., a faculty member of the Faculty of Sharia and Law who specializes in this field. In her lecture, she explained the differences in astronomical calculations between Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah, highlighting the variations in their methods of determining the lunar calendar.
After the break, the program continued with two discussion forums. The first forum featured a student paper presentation from Universiti Malaya, held in the Second Floor Theater Room, guided by Umniyah Wahidah, S.H., Chairperson of the Islamic Astronomy Student Council (IASC) FSH 2022-2023 and an FSH alumna. She presented on the differences in Indonesia's time zones (WIB-WITA-WIT) and their impact on the calculation of the lunar crescent, which varies depending on the observation site. Ahmad Muaz, a representative from Universiti Malaya, shared that observations in Malaysia are conducted independently, unlike in Indonesia. Ahmad Muaz also discussed his thesis titled "Analysis of the Comparison of the Quality of the Crescent Moon Image Using Imaging Techniques with Cooling and Cooling Moon from a Sharia and Astronomy Perspective."
Meanwhile, the second forum took place in the Madya Meeting Room, where FSH students attended a public lecture with Dr. Raihana binti Abdul Wahab, discussing "Changes in Fajr Prayer Times in Malaysia." Both forums saw enthusiastic participation from students of Universiti Malaya as well as FSH students from UIN Jakarta.[EEA]
